GREEN WING MACAW
(Ara chloropterus)

The green-winged macaw is one of the largest birds in its species, measuring roughly 35 inches from its scarlet head to the tip of its tapered tail and weighs between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 pounds. It is almost as big as the Buffon's macaw or the hyacinth macaw. After the blue-and-gold macaw and the scarlet macaw, the green wing may rank as the third most popular large macaw partner.

Character & Behavior

Although the green-winged macaw's enormous beak may seem menacing, this huge macaw is actually the gentler of the two, not known for biting or violent mood swings. With a lifespan of more than 70 years, a well-raised, robust, and well-cared-for green wing makes a good friend and companion.

APPEARANCE

Males have a chestnut-colored head with a green patch in the shape of a crescent that extends from the eye to the back of the head. The majority of their body is gray, and they have a white vertical line in front of their wings, a yellowish tail, and a gray tail. All over, females have brown striations.
